This general English course is designed to help you us English in real-life situations such as travelling, speaking to natives, or you just want to be able to speak English on a deeper level.

The course plan is tailored to your needs, wants, and interests.  If you’re interested in functional English for your visit to London, you’re a student who wants to study abroad,  or you’re struggling with the difference between past continuous and past perfect continuous, this course is for you.

Lessons use interesting and engaging topics to help you remember more.  For example, you can learn how to predict with self-driving cars,  practise using the present continuous while talking about online dating, or improve your vocabulary while learning about the prison system.

With hard work, you will see improvements in your speaking skills, grammar accuracy, vocabulary expansion, and confidence as you continue with each lesson.

If you have a group of people who want to learn together, you can!

Before signing up, make sure everyone in the group has a similar English level and choose a trustworthy group leader to handle payments.

In a group class, you can save money and have classmates to practice with outside of class. However, in one-on-one classes, the teacher focuses solely on you, the lessons go at your own pace, and the course plan is tailored specifically to your needs.

As long as you can commit to the same time every week, you can take as many classes as you like.

Each lesson lasts for 50 minutes, but there is often an extra activity available in case some students finish quickly.  These activities are optional, but Rhys is happy to provide answers or check your work if you want to complete them.

Before each lesson, you will receive a PDF worksheet which you will use during the lesson.  After the lesson, you will be sent the answers to the worksheet so you can check your work.  Additionally, if there are any audio or video materials used in the lesson, you will also receive the transcript.

The course plan is made just for you, but here are some things you might learn:

-New words about different things like introducing yourself, family, numbers, jobs, and things you like to do.

-The basics of how to use adverbs, present tense, object pronouns, and basic verbs.

-You will also get better at listening, speaking, saying words right, reading, and writing.

The course plan is tailored to your needs, wants, and interests, but here are some example of skills you’ll do.

-Expand your vocabulary on various topics including shades, patterns, nature, technology, relationships, health, and functional language for everyday conversations like congratulating, complimenting, praising, and talking about time.

-Review and learn grammar points such as verb + infinitive, verb + -ing, state verbs, past and present tense aspects, adjective/noun + preposition, parts of speech, and past participles.

-Enhance your speaking, listening, and pronunciation skills through advanced practice, as well as your reading and writing abilities.

At the intermediate level, we place greater emphasis on expanding your vocabulary and practicing natural English.  The course plan is tailored to meet your individual needs, but here are some examples of things you might expect.

-Read articles and listen to dialogues on engaging topics such as child chess prodigies, ultra-marathon runners, and online dating to help you learn language in context.

-Learn advanced vocabulary to enhance your conversations about familiar topics such as people’s backgrounds, personalities, appearances, work and job interviews, and dating and relationships.

-Review tricky grammar and fill in any gaps in your understanding, such as past and present tense aspects, “used to” + infinitive, gerunds and infinitives, and any other areas that you specifically want to improve.

In these lessons, the focus is on expanding your vocabulary and practicing natural English.  The course plan is tailored to your needs, but generally, here’s what you might expect to do.

-Explore various contexts by reading articles on topics like procrastination, comas, and genetic predispositions.

-Expand your vocabulary for introductions and getting to know people in both formal and informal settings, personal and biographical information, personality traits, health, politics, obsessions and manias, education systems, gossiping, adverbial phrases, and idioms related to sleep, patience, and waiting.

-Review grammar concepts such as question tags, and past and present tense aspects.

-Practice and apply what you’ve learned in controlled speaking activities and role plays.

At the advanced level, the topics we’ll explore are designed to enhance your vocabulary, identify areas where you may still need improvement, and reinforce everything you’ve learned so far.

Although the course plan is customised to meet your specific needs, you can typically expect to explore fascinating subjects such as the world’s first floating sea city, the benefits of smiling for your health, survival stories, robot comedians, the natural resources of the Earth, the impact of politics on tourism, animal movements and body parts, decision making in games, the eventual demise of the universe, and the idiosyncrasies of the English language.

For Beginners and Pre-Intermediate students, it’s advised to improve your general English with the English for Life course before taking IELTS Training classes.

This IELTS training course is designed to assist you in achieving the required band score for moving abroad, getting into a university, or securing a job.

To begin the course, you’ll take an actual IELTS test to identify your areas of weakness. Then, the course plan will be personalised to suit your specific needs.

The lessons in the IELTS Training course are centered around familiar IELTS topics and presented in a way that will keep you engaged and help you to remember better.  You can enhance your speaking skills by discussing the topic of overfishing, improve your reading skills by exploring animal welfare, and sharpen your listening skills with hair colour stereotypes.

With hard work, you will discover the tips and tricks to help you pass, you’ll improve your weaker areas, and you’ll notice your confidence rising as you continue with each lesson.

The course plan is customised to meet your specific needs, but it will likely involve more complex subject matters that frequently appear in the IELTS exam.

For instance, you could enhance your speaking and listening skills by discussing the topic of recycling, you could refine your writing ability with the topic of tofu, or you might enhance your writing proficiency by exploring the concept of universal basic income.

Kid's Club

The Kid’s Club course is designed for children who have already learned some English basics.  There may be beginner classes available in the future.

The Kid’s Club course is designed to help your child improve their English skills and learn about different topics that can give them an advantage over other kids their age.

The course plan is customised to your child’s needs, wants, and curiosities.  Your child will get to explore a diverse range of topics such as animals, body parts, world records, monsters, ocean life, Pokémon, and insects, just to name a few, which are crafted to capture their attention and help them remember what they learn.  

If your child is ready to put in effort and enjoy themselves, they’ll quickly improve their speaking, listening, and reading skills, understand key sentence structures, and become familiar with important grammar points.

Students as young as five have joined Kid’s Club, and they usually move onto English for Life (same price) at around eleven or twelve years old.

However, this depends more on your child’s ability and maturity than their age.  If you have a four year old who can sit still for 50 minutes, they are welcome.  If you have a very advanced eight year old, they could move onto English for Life.
